OUR OBJECTIVE:

Groutastic is a small, family-run business. We have had many encounters with cancer in our lives and want to help contribute to cancer research and development. We have won some battles, lost some battles and are still fighting some battles against this terrible disease. We cannot contribute millions of dollars like some bigger corporations, the way we would like to, but we know that our small donations can help make a difference, just the same. We would like to share some of our stories with you!

Uncle Brian

Brian is our 49 year old uncle. He was a bus driver who, in March of 2007, had a bus accident as a result of a seizure. He was immediately hospitalized and doctors discovered a tumor on his brain. As it turns out, the tumor was a Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). He had surgery at New York University to remove the tumor. It was successful, and he started on a course of chemotherapy and radiation. He was doing great, eating well, staying fit and thinking positive. In January of 2008, another spot was detected on his brain and he underwent a second brain surgery. He recently started a new regimen of chemotherapy and is fighting harder than ever. The statistics are very frightening, but to see Brian in person...you would not know that he is sick. Our family has been fighting and praying together. Maybe, someone will discover a cure for this terrible disease so that Brian can grow old with his wife, Kate their two beautiful children.
This fight is for finding a cure!

Alejandra

            Ali is my mother. She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer more than twenty years ago. Her primary care physician detected it early and she had surgery to remove her thyroid. My mother is alive and healthy and is a survivor. She has a wonderful life with my father, Jordan, walked me and my brother when we got married over the last few years and has recently become a grandmother to my daughter, Julia.
This fight is for early detection!

Hedy

Hedy was my wife’s dear friend. They met when Hedy was my wife’s teacher in high school. Hedy died from breast cancer which had metastisized throughout her body in 2001. She was only 52 when she died leaving behind her husband, Norm and her teenage son, Eric. Hedy’s mother had also died of breast cancer when she was 52. Had Hedy undergone genetic screening, she would have had a preventative double mastectomy.
